HS2 Project

Great Britain

HS2 is the current UK’s largest infrastructure project (high speed railroad). Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV), has embraced innovation in concrete testing by adopting VERIFI®, the digital in-transit Measuring System. This groundbreaking approach leverages emerging technologies, including fresh concrete digitalization, to enhance productivity and efficiency in construction projects.

Challenges

BBV identified challenges in traditional concrete testing methods, including manual consistency (slump and flow) and temperature testing of fresh concrete. The need for real-time monitoring and automation in testing processes to ensure accurate consistency and compliance became a primary focus.

EXPERTISE and benefits:
Visibility into ready-mix production

VERIFI® employs on-truck sensors and proprietary algorithms, becoming the first digital solution approved by HS2 to replace manual testing. This digital system provides real-time monitoring of fresh concrete properties during transportation, linking to batching plant records for controlled water or admixture addition. Automation of tracking, testing, and record-keeping streamlines operations, improving data accuracy, accessibility, and ease of documentation.

Tarmac, a leading concrete supply partner, played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of VERIFI®. Their expertise and collaboration with BBV and other project stakeholders ensured seamless integration, contributing to the overall success of the HS2 concrete operations.
